Percentage increase and decrease are two important concepts related to comparing two values based on their relative change.
Percentage increase tells us how much more a value is compared to another. For example, if a value increases from 10 to 15, its percentage increase would be 50%.
Percentage decrease tells us how much less a value is compared to another. For example, if a value decreases from 15 to 10, its percentage decrease would be 50%.
To calculate the percentage increase or decrease:
Find the difference between the two values.
Divide the difference by the original value.
Multiply the result by 100.
Here are some examples:
If the price of an item increases from 12, its percentage increase would be 20%.
If the attendance at a school increases from 20 to 25 students, its percentage increase would be 25%.
If the cost of a car decreases from 180, its percentage decrease would be 10%.
By understanding percentage increase and decrease, we can easily compare changes in values and assess whether they are increasing or decreasing
