Imagine you have a table filled with lots of different information, like the grades of students in different subjects. How can you find out how each student did in each subject?
Compare Data Across Rows
First, we look at the rows of the table. Each row represents a different student. Each cell in the row contains the student's score in a specific subject.
Compare Data Across Columns
Next, we look at the columns of the table. Each column represents a different subject. Each cell in the column contains the student's score in that subject.
How to Compare?
We compare the scores in the same position (row and column) across all students. This means we compare the grades of the same student in Math and English, for example.
Example
| Student | Subject 1 | Subject 2 |
|---|---|---|
| John | 8 | 7 |
| Mary | 9 | 8 |
| Bob | 6 | 9 |
In this example:
John's score in Math is 8 and his score in English is 7.
Mary's score in Math is 9 and her score in English is also 8.
Bob's score in Math is 6 and his score in English is 9.
Conclusion
By comparing data across different rows and columns, we can get a better understanding of how each student performed in all the subjects
