Adjectives are words that modify nouns. They tell us more about a noun, specifying its characteristics or qualities.

Adjectives have different parts of speech:
Common adjectives: are used with singular nouns: the, a, an
Proper adjectives: are used with proper nouns: the Mary, the book
Appositive adjectives: are used after nouns that already end in "s": the students, the happy dog
