A lung tumor is a growth of abnormal cells in the lungs. These tumors can develop anywhere in the lungs, but they are most common in the lung tissue, which is made up of tissue from the lungs, airways, and chest wall.
Lung tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body and do not cause significant symptoms. However, malignant tumors can spread to other parts of the body and can be life-threatening.
The most common type of lung tumor is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This type of cancer makes up about 70% of all lung tumors. NSCLC is often diagnosed through tests such as sputum cytology, biopsy, and chest X-ray.
Other types of lung tumors include:
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
Medullary lung cancer
Lymphocytic lung cancer
Sarcomatoid lung cancer
Symptoms of lung tumors can include:
Persistent cough
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Weight loss
Fever
Weight loss
Loss of appetite
If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to see your doctor for diagnosis. Early diagnosis and treatment of lung tumors can improve your prognosis
