Tonsillitis and adenoiditis are two conditions that affect the mucous membranes lining the mouth, nose, and throat. Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, which are two small glands located on either side of the throat. Adenoiditis is inflammation of the adenoids, which are small glands located deep in the throat.
Both conditions are caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi. Symptoms of tonsillitis and adenoiditis include symptoms such as:
Sore throat
Red and swollen tonsils or adenoids
Fever
Chills
Muscle aches
Headache
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
Tonsillitis and adenoiditis can be treated with home remedies such as rest, drinking plenty of fluids, and taking over-the-counter pain relievers. Antibiotics are also sometimes prescribed to treat bacterial or fungal infections
