The inner ear is a complex network of structures located deep within the temporal bone of the skull. It is responsible for balance, hearing, and spatial orientation.
The inner ear consists of three main parts:
Outer ear: This is the visible part of the ear, including the ear canal, earlobe, and pinna. It collects sound waves and directs them to the middle ear.
Middle ear: This middle ear is a series of air-filled cavities and muscles that amplify sound waves and transmit them to the inner ear. It also helps to equalize pressure between the outside and inside of the body.
Inner ear: This is a collection of fluid-filled sacs and organs that are responsible for balance, hearing, and spatial orientation. It includes the semicircular canals, stapes, auditory nerve, and vestibular system.
