Mechanism method
The mechanism method is a systematic approach to analyzing plastic parts and components. This method involves breaking down the part into smaller, simpler geometries called mechanism elements, which are then analyzed individually.
Each mechanism element is then analyzed using a mechanism analysis software to determine its geometry, load distribution, and response characteristics. These results are then combined to calculate the overall behavior of the entire part.
Advantages of the mechanism method:
Provides a detailed understanding of the part's behavior
Allows for analysis of complex geometries and loading conditions
Enables engineers to optimize the design of plastic parts
Example:
Consider a plastic gear with multiple shafts and gears. Each shaft and gear can be analyzed individually using the mechanism method. The geometry of each element, the loads acting on it, and the material properties can be determined separately. Then, the results can be combined to calculate the overall torque and behavior of the entire gear system
