Lingual Arch and Nance Appliance
A lingual arch is a custom-made device used in pediatric and preventive dentistry to improve lip development and encourage proper tongue placement. It's a thin, custom-shaped arch made of acrylic or another biocompatible material that fits snugly around the child's mouth.
The Nance appliance is a popular lingual arch commonly used in orthodontics. It consists of two acrylic plates with clasps that fit around the front teeth. The appliance encourages the child to develop a wide and well-spaced smile by pushing the tongue forward and guiding it towards the palate. This helps to correct issues such as overjetting (when the upper front teeth protrude forward), crowding, and dental drift.
Benefits of the Lingual Arch and Nance Appliance:
Improves lip development and tongue placement
Corrects overjetting, crowding, and dental drift
Encourages proper tongue function
Promotes a healthy smile and improved aesthetics
