Purpose: To remove all remaining carious dentin (the hard tissue within the tooth) from the cavity preparation site to ensure optimal root canal treatment.
Steps:
Debridement: Use a diamond bur to remove all traces of old filling material, debris, and soft tissue from the cavity entrance.
Irrigation: Flush the cavity with water to remove any remaining debris and ensure thorough cleaning.
Light activation: Use a light-activated cariostatic paste to activate a remineralizing material. This helps fill the dentin tubules and prevent re- Cavitation.
Rotary preparation: Using a rotary dentin drill with appropriate diameter tips, remove the remaining dentin from the cavity walls, maintaining a constant working width and avoiding overdrilling.
Irrigation: Flush the root canal preparation site with water to remove any remaining debris and ensure complete removal of the dentin.
Verification: Confirm that all remnants of carious dentin are removed by checking for resistance to probing with a cotton wisp.
Note:
In cases of extensive caries or multiple carious lesions, more extensive preparation steps may be necessary.
The depth of cavity preparation should be determined by the type and location of the carious lesion.
Proper documentation of the preparation steps and any deviations from the routine protocol should be maintained
