Handpicking
Handpicking is a technique used in chemistry and biology to separate mixtures of substances based on their physical properties. It involves using physical methods, such as filtering, sieving, or decanting, to separate the components of a mixture into individual substances.
One method of handpicking is filtration. A filter made of a material with pores smaller than the size of the particles of interest is placed over a container. The mixture is poured through the filter, and the particles larger than the pores are retained on the filter while the smaller particles pass through.
Another method of handpicking is sieving. A screen with pores of specific sizes is used to separate the mixture. The particles that pass through the pores are collected on one side of the screen, while the particles that are retained are collected on the other side.
