Scientific Notation is a system of representing numbers that is widely used in mathematics and other scientific disciplines. It allows us to express very large or small numbers in a much more compact and convenient way.
Numbers expressed in scientific notation have the form:
a x 10^b
where:
a is the actual number we want to represent
b is the exponent indicating the place of the digit being moved
The exponent tells us how many places to move the decimal point to get to the next digit.
If the exponent is positive, it means the decimal point is moved right.
If the exponent is negative, it means the decimal point is moved left.
For example, 1.23 x 10^5 can be written as 12300, or 0.00123 can be written as 1.23 x 10^-2.
Scientific notation allows us to express numbers in a very compact form, which can make it easier to work with and compare different numbers. It is widely used in various applications, such as physics, chemistry, and engineering
