Concept of Perimeter
A perimeter is the distance around the perimeter of a shape. It is the total length of all the edges of the shape.
For example, consider a circle. The perimeter of a circle is equal to the circumference of its diameter. This means that the perimeter of a circle with a diameter of 5 cm is equal to the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 10 cm.
The perimeter of a shape can be calculated by adding the lengths of all its edges. For example, consider a rectangle with the following dimensions:
Length: 10 cm
Width: 5 cm
The perimeter of the rectangle is equal to the sum of its length and width:
The perimeter of a circle is equal to the circumference of its diameter:
where r is the radius of the circle.
The perimeter of a shape can also be calculated by using the formula:
where a and b are the length and width of the shape respectively
