Mean, Median, and Mode of Grouped Data
Mean (Average)
The mean, also known as the average, is the sum of all the values in a group divided by the total number of values. It provides a measure of central tendency that tells us the typical value in the data.
Median
The median is the middle value in a grouped data set when arranged in order from smallest to largest. If there are two middle values, the median is the average of the two middle values.
Mode
The mode is the most frequently occurring value in a group of data. It tells us the most common value in the data.
Example
Consider the following grouped data:
10, 15, 10, 10, 15, 20, 20
Mean: (10 + 15 + 10 + 10 + 15 + 20 + 20) / 7 = 15
Median: 10, 10, 15, 15, 20, 20
Mode: 10, 15
