Standard Average: Mean, Median and Mode Basics
Mean (Average):
The mean, also known as the average, is the sum of all the numbers in a set divided by the total number of numbers. It is often represented by the Greek letter "μ" (mu).
Median:
The median is the middle value in a set of numbers when arranged in order from smallest to largest. If there are an odd number of numbers, the median is the average of the two middle values.
Mode:
The mode is the number that appears most often in a set of numbers.
Examples:
Mean: If you have the numbers 10, 12, 15, 18, and 20, the mean is (10 + 12 + 15 + 18 + 20) / 5 = 15.
Median: If you have the numbers 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13, the median is 9.
Mode: If the numbers 10, 10, 10, 15, 15 appear the same number of times, the mode is 10.
